- Some Exterior Exposure
- Floor Flatness for High Build 10mil Epoxy Sealer
- 6,000 sq.ft.
- Timeline concerns (fast turn-around) 3 days
The Electronic Repair Facilities for Military Vehicles on the Camp Pendleton Marine Base in
Southern California was in need of a new concrete wear surface. RQ Construction poured a
new concrete slab and the plan was to seal the slab with an epoxy sealer at 10 mil. To receive
the sealer the surface needed to be flat and smooth. The new slab had some settling which
caused an uneven surface and several bird baths in various parts of the pour. To tear-out and
re-pour the slab would have taken significant time and cost.
RQ Construction called in ARDEX Sales Professional Mark Dodd to walk the site and provide a recommendation. Mark brought Lew Rea, ARDEX Military & Government projects specialist with
20 years of experience at ARDEX and a Retired Lt. Colonel, U.S. Army.
After walking the floor of the repair facility Mark and Lew recommended ARDEX K 301™ Exterior Self
Leveling Topping for the job. The facility had multiple bays with large garage doors which exposed the interior surface to exterior elements including wind, rain and because the base is located in a desert
region the temperatures varied from extremely hot days to very cold nights.
ARDEX K 301 is the first high-performance self-leveling technology for use over exterior surfaces. It
has a very high-compressive strength that is excellent for the traffic from the various military vehicles serviced at the facility. It’s unique formulation as an exterior self-leveling topping is designed to
withstand harsh external environments and varying temperatures.
Mark also recommended ARDEX LevelMaster Elite Installer™ Tri-Co Floors to do the installation
of 300 bags of ARDEX K 301. The entire job was prepped using ARDEX P71 Primer and completed
by the highly experienced Tri-Co team in just 3 days.
RQ Construction and the Marines were very happy with the results, the speed of the project completion
and the expertise ARDEX delivered. This successful project has led to several other jobs with RQ Construction at Camp Pendleton and elsewhere.
