The American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas is home to the NBA Dallas Mavericks and serves as a multipurpose arena for concerts and other major events throughout the year. The facility management team was concerned about uneven sections of concrete due to settling in various locations. Concrete was breaking around accent lighting installed around the base of the building and around ventilation grates in building sidewalks. The cracking caused water infiltration at the caulked joints.
• Working around the nBA Dallas Mavericks playoff schedule
• Work started and completed during limited days between playoff games
After walking the jobsite with ARDEX Choice Contractor™ Master Construction and Engineering, Inc., ARDEX Sales Professional Matt Eller recommended ARDEX Engineered
Concrete Repair Systems (ECRS) products for the repairs.
First, ARDEX ERM™ Exterior Ramp Mortar was used to ramp and level areas around ventilation grates and kiosks. ARDEX ERM has low shrinkage, provides stable bond line and easily holds shape for ramping. Next, ARDEX FDM™ Full Depth Mortar was used to fill in around the accent lighting fixtures. ARDEX FDM has low shrinkage and resists delamination. Finally, ARDEX CD™ Concrete Dressing was used over some of the patch areas to better match the color and look of the existing concrete. ARDEX CD gives existing concrete a new wear layer and fills in small surface defects like spalls, gouges, and cracks. ARDEX ECRS products were chosen because of ease of use and fast turnaround time. ARDEX ECRS products harden quickly which enabled sections of the project to be completed in the short time between Dallas Mavericks NBA playoff games.
