Residual moisture on a construction site is an issue for any waterproofing system. When a well-known competitor’s product was originally specified for this high-profile installation at the Mumbai International Airport, ARDEX ENDURA needed to prove it was up for the challenge of meeting the strict building standards with ARDEX high quality materials.
ARDEX ENDURA Technical Services recommended a combination of two products that would combat moisture issues caused by water evaporating through the substrate and leaking water from above. To prove the ARDEX system was the best solution, ARDEX ENDURA Technical Services team installed a test area where the reliability of the product was proven by a flood test.
ARDEX ENDURA won L&T Construction’s confidence and ARDEX products were ultimately used instead of the specified competitor’s products.
Each area requiring waterproofing was cleaned and prepared to sound, solid concrete to ensure an excellent product bond to the substrate. ARDEX WPM 300 (HydrEpoxy 300) Water Based Epoxy Membrane was a great choice for this installation because it bonds to wet surfaces eliminating issues created by residual moisture. ARDEX WPM 300 also prevents problems caused by water vapor transmission that may occur from newly poured concrete that has not had sufficient time to fully cure.
By allowing ARDEX WPM 300 to cure overnight, ARDEX WPM 002 Two Component Undertile Waterproofing Membrane could be installed the next day. ARDEX WPM 002 can be installed without a reinforcing mat directly under a tile system. It also allows for normal building movement ensuring against leaks as the building settles, expands and contracts.
Through the entire installation, ARDEX Technical Service was on site to answer questions and train installers. They also assisted inspecting installations as they were completed. Because of this dedication, ARDEX Technical Service Team, L&T Construction could guarantee there would be no leaks at the Mumbai International Airport.
