The ARDEX Group
ARDEX Naturally sustainable
High-coverage ARDEX products take care of large surface areas with a minimum of material, which cuts down on processing, transport and waste packaging.
High-yield products allow installers to save on construction materials. That means less handling, less transportation and less packaging waste on the jobsite. ARDEX is an innovator when it comes to highly efficient products.
An outstanding example is ARDEX X 7 G Plus, a high-yield tile adhesive. It is specifically formulated to have a very high yield per bag (approx. 20 percent more coverage per kilogram compared to traditional tile adhesives) along with enhanced adhesion and flexibility.
It’s a simple equation: Less material, less weight, fewer loads, less waste and less time equal less CO2.
Ultra-fast, easy-to-use ARDEX products allow to complete projects in as little as one day – which protects the environment by reducing trips back and forth to the building site. With technologies such as the ARDURAPID effect and SpeedTec, ARDEX products stand out for their ultra-fast and easy-to-use qualities, accelerating the building process while helping to reduce costs and protect the environment.
Fast-track products allow floor and tile installers to complete a project within a very short time.Ease of handling means fewer trips to the jobsite, which saves mileage and in turn reduces CO2 emissions. An outstanding example is ARDEX K 55, a premium high-flow, self-drying, self-levelling underlayment featuring the ARDURAPID effect and SpeedTec technology. The ARDURAPID effect causes very fast hydraulic hardening and complete crystalline water binding. That means ARDEX K 55 can take both light foot traffic and the installation of floor coverings after only 60 minutes. SpeedTec accelerates the setting of tile adhesives. The use of innovative ARDEX products turns critical subfloors into complete floor coverings within three hours. Fast turnaround saves time and money.
ARDEX powder products are mixed with water right on the construction site, reducing costs and time needed for transport.
High-quality ARDEX sub-floor smoothing compounds deliver extremely even surfaces, which means far less adhesive is required to affix the flooring.
An outstanding example in this product range is ARDEX K 15, a premium self-levelling underlayment with excellent flow properties and significant application advantages. When the self-levelling concrete is poured, it has a viscosity similar to honey. Trowel marks disappear almost immediately due to the self-smoothing qualities of the product. Bumps are completely avoided. The result is a smooth, even surface ready for further working. Far less adhesive is required to affix the flooring. Less adhesive means less transportation and in turn less environmental pollution.
Another characteristic of K 15 is the ARDURAPID effect, which makes for hardened, dry and ready-to-use surfaces in the space of a day. Shorter application times mean faster completion of the project and less mileage wasted on multiple trips to the site.
The smoothness and speed of ARDEX self-levelling products contribute to effective and efficient applications.
The extraordinarily long life of all ARDEX products help saving resources.
ARDEX is an expert when it comes to durable products that offer both great functionality and performance. These qualities help preserve the value of buildings in the long term and contribute to sustainability.
ARDEX X 78, for example, is a tile adhesive that stands out for its high yield and excellent application properties. This product makes for perfect tile laying, ensuring permanent adhesion even of large-format tiles. No need for reworking or early replacement. As a result, there is less adhesive consumption, less transportation and fewer costs.
The durability of ARDEX building products therefore makes a positive contribution to resource conservation.
High product quality protects installers against consequential costs. The processing reliability of ARDEX products avoids complaints and major rework and also ensures that budgets are met.
ARDEX products are designed for renovating existing buildings which helps reducing the strain on the environment, as refurbishment consumes far fewer resources than new builds.
Renovation generally saves resources compared with new construction. ARDEX is a specialist in renovation products, which is why we focus not only on performance, but also on the functionality and durability of our building products.
It’s often the case with modernisations and restorations that the building is still in use while construction work is underway. When this happens, short building times are called for. ARDEX advances the development of products that meet this requirement. The ARDEX range therefore includes a variety of innovative products which stand out for their fast processing time.
ARDEX A 38 is a screed binder which can be tiled over after four hours. The application of both screed and tiling can be done within just one day.
In 2009, this new screed system for fast processing won the innovation award “Bauen im Bestand”. ARDEX A 38 is just one example of the many excellent ARDEX renovation products that help reduce environmental impact.
Made from carefully selected raw materials, virtually all ARDEX products are 100% recyclable, which saves natural resources.
A large proportion of the raw materials used at ARDEX are from renewable or recycled sources and almost all ARDEX products can be recycled or disposed of as construction waste without causing environmental pollution.
In addition to ecological concerns, it is important to take the quality and functionality of the building products used into account, as these properties will have a positive impact on the structure’s sustainability over its life cycle. ARDEX focuses on providing products that feature such properties – products that will contribute significantly to conserving a building’s value.
By continually investing in state-of-the-art production technology for its plants, ARDEX achieves significant energy savings.
The use of the latest manufacturing technologies ensures the lowest possible energy consumption. ARDEX invests continuously in its production facilities all over the world. The new powder production plant in Witten, Germany, is a case in point. The new plant facilitates continuous product optimisation and supports the integration of new developments in products and technology. In addition to innovative automation technology, ARDEX relies on advanced process control and visualisation systems.
After detailed studies, a decision was made to implement a “vertical tower concept”: All raw materials are raised pneumatically and then metered, weighed and brought to the mixing and filling processes in free fall. Intermediate transportation is no longer necessary. Modern technology allows very accurate metering and both material consumption and detailed protocols of batches are recorded automatically.
The result is consistent, outstanding product quality, which in turn leads to long life cycles and highly sustainable solutions.
Shaping the future
Sustainability is one of the defining issues of our time. Climate change and the financial crisis have driven home the devastating consequences of action geared to short-term goals. In contrast, acting sustainably means shaping the future responsibly over the long term. It calls for the sparing use of economic resources, preserving their value, coupled with protecting our environment – all in a spirit of cooperation based on fairness and respect. Long before it became a buzzword, the concept of sustainability was already an integral part of the ARDEX corporate philosophy. It is the common thread that guides the way our family business thinks and acts.
Operating cost-efficiently: for the planet’s sake
At ARDEX, we see ecology and economy as two sides of the same coin. Climate change demands that valuable resources are used sparingly. ARDEX sets the bar high with products that are not only easy to work but also go a long way. It’s our answer to preserving the planet for the future – and providing value for money. In addition, ARDEX offers emission-free, consumer- and user-friendly products for almost all applications. Sustainability is also a principle that informs business policy at ARDEX. Our latest investments in production facilities are strengthening local business in our sales markets, safeguarding jobs wherever we aim to sell our products, boosting the region’s economy and at the same time easing the load on the environment thanks to short transport distances.

Acting in partnership
Unity is strength. That’s why it’s so important to forge dependable partnerships – and make sure they go the distance by cultivating a climate of transparency, confidence and unshakable trust. At ARDEX, the principle of sustainable partnerships is one of the cornerstones of our corporate philosophy – both within the company and beyond. This is why the yardstick for our collaboration with market partners is lasting mutual benefit. We engage in ongoing dialogue to ensure that we incorporate our partners’ needs and expectations into all our business decisions. Naturally, as a family business, our in-house partners are also especially close to our heart. Our staff are the foundation that underpins our success. We are committed to investing in them so that they will continue to feel at home at ARDEX for many years to come.
Sustainable construction is gathering momentum. The aim is to design buildings that will contribute to the long-term conservation of energy and resources as well as the health and happiness of occupants. For some time now, various building certification systems have been available to evaluate and honour sustainability, such as the U.S. LEED system and the German Sustainable Building Certificate (DGNB). These systems also take into account different types of building, for instance, office and administrative blocks, schools, airports, etc. Such ratings always consider the sustainability of a building as a whole, so individual building materials cannot be categorised as sustainable or unsustainable. Aside from the purely environmental aspect, the make-or-break question is whether the functionality and quality of the materials used will positively impact the building’s sustainability over its entire life cycle. Here too, you can count on ARDEX for reliable advice in selecting and using the optimum products for your sustainable building project.
